Bozburun sits at the southern tip of a mountainous peninsula south-west of Marmaris, facing the Greek island of Symi. It is far from big resort towns: think a working harbour, stone houses, fishing boats and boatyards where wooden gulets are still built by hand.
Where is Bozburun?
Bozburun belongs to the Marmaris district in Muğla province. The nearest international airport is Dalaman, roughly 2–2.5 hours away by car. See our guide on getting from Dalaman Airport to Bozburun.
When to go
The boating and swimming season runs from late May to late October. June and September combine warm water with quieter bays. Details: Bozburun weather and the best time to visit.
What to see
- The harbour and boatyards – watch gulets take shape on the slipways.
- Selimiye – a sheltered bay about 10 km north with waterfront restaurants.
- Kızkumu in Orhaniye – a sandbar where you can “walk on water”.
- Bozukkale (ancient Loryma) – fortress walls above a natural harbour at the tip of the peninsula.
The bays are the main event
Most of the best swimming spots around Bozburun have no road access. A day trip or a few days on a gulet takes you to Aquarium Bay, Adaboğazı, Serçe Limanı and Bozukkale. Read our guide to the bays of Bozburun.
